Ingredients

  • 500 g minced pork and beef
  • 1 large garlic clove (or 2 small cloves), minced (for the meatballs)
  • ½ tbsp ground coriander
  • ½ tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • ½ tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1½ tsp salt
  • ¼ medium onion, grated
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 25 g fresh breadcrumbs
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced (for the sauce)
  • 1 small can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • 1 fresh mint, picked
  • 1 flat-leaf parsley, picked
  • 6–7 tbsp full-fat sour cream

Directions

10 steps

Meatballs

  1. Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the minced pork and beef, minced garlic, ground coriander, ground cumin, ground cardamom, smoked paprika, salt, grated onion, beaten egg, and fresh breadcrumbs.
  2. Step 2

Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Step 3

Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and set aside.
  4. Step 4

In a large skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of oil and cook the meatballs in batches until they are browned on all sides and cooked through.
  5. Step 5

Transfer the cooked meatballs to a plate and set aside.

Sauce

  1. Step 1

In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant
  2. Step 2

Add the crushed tomatoes and stir, allowing the sauce to simmer for 10–15 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  3. Step 3

Return the meatballs to the skillet, spooning the tomato sauce over them, and simmer for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavours to meld

Garnish and Serve

  1. Step 1

Serve the meatballs topped with fresh mint and parsley, a dollop of full-fat sour cream, and a squeeze of lemon juice.
  2. Step 2

Garnish with mint and parsley salad on the side for extra freshness.
