Preparation Instructions:
SERVINGS: 2, RICE: ½ cup, WATER OR BROTH: ¾-1 cups
SERVINGS: 4, RICE: 1 cup, WATER OR BROTH: 1½-2 cups
SERVINGS: 8, RICE: 2 cups, WATER OR BROTH: 3-4 cups
Stovetop Cooking Instructions:
1. Rinse rice in cold water until water runs clear. Drain well before cooking.
2. Bring water or broth to a vigorous boil in a saucepan with a tight-fitting lid.
3. Add rinsed rice. Add 1 tbsp (15 mL) butter or margarine and 1 tsp (5 mL) salt for taste, if desired. Stir and cover saucepan with lid.
4. Reduce heat; simmer for 15-20 minutes or until all liquid is absorbed and rice is tender. Or cook over VERY LOW heat for 18-25 minutes without removing lid or until all water is absorbed.
5. Remove saucepan from heat and allow to stand, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve.
Microwave Cooking Instructions:
Makes 4 servings
1. Rinse rice thoroughly before cooking.
2. Combine about 2 cups water or broth and 1 rinsed cup rice in a microwave-safe 2 L (8-cup) casserole dish. Add about 1½ tsp (8 mL) butter or margarine and 1 tsp (5 mL) salt for taste, if desired.
3. Microwave uncovered on HIGH for 6 minutes. Stir once. Cover the dish and microwave on MEDIUM for another 12 minutes or until all liquid is absorbed.
4. Let stand 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve.
